TORORO, Uganda — May 1, 2026 — A suspected cattle thief was killed by an angry mob in Paloto ‘A’ Zone, Magola Sub-county, Tororo District, after allegedly being found in possession of a stolen bull.
According to Bukedi South regional police spokesperson IP Moses Mugwe, the unidentified man was attacked by residents at around 11:00 PM on Wednesday night and sustained fatal injuries during the assault.
Police Launch Investigations into Mob Killing
Preliminary reports indicate that the suspect was found with a bull believed to belong to a local resident, identified as Owere Richard, prompting members of the community to take matters into their own hands.
The incident was initially reported at Magola Sub-county Police Station before being formally registered at Tororo Central Police Station. Authorities have since launched investigations into the killing.

Police in Tororo investigate a mob justice incident after a suspected cattle thief was lynched in a night attack.Police officers visited the scene, collected evidence, and recorded statements from witnesses. The body of the deceased was taken to Tororo Municipal Mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
Authorities Warn Against Mob Justice
Police have condemned the act of mob justice, warning that such actions undermine the rule of law and can lead to wrongful deaths.
“We urge members of the public to avoid taking the law into their own hands and instead report suspects to police for proper handling,” Mugwe said.
Mob justice remains a growing concern in parts of Uganda, often linked to rising theft cases and limited access to timely legal intervention.
