National Unity Platform president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has criticised the death of Marinos Alexandros, a party supporter who was allegedly abducted, tortured, and raped in the chambers of the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) before being unlawfully detained and later released.

Kyagulanyi told the Uncovered Ug Media team that “Her crime? Playing Bobi Wine’s music on loudspeakers! When she came out and exposed the thugs, she started receiving calls threatening to kill her. Her house was raided in the night by rogues, but she narrowly escaped.”

In a statement on Sunday morning, Bobi Wine said Marinos was initially picked up by security operatives on March 30, 2022, in Mbuya, and subjected to what he described as “incredible torture and sexual violence” at CMI headquarters.

After weeks of unlawful detention and brutal treatment, Marinos was eventually released but continued to face threats. She later fled to Nairobi, Kenya, where she survived another abduction attempt before seeking refuge in a UNHCR camp.

According to the NUP president, her health deteriorated in exile, and despite receiving medical support, her condition worsened. “Because of loneliness and other conditions in the camp, she returned to Uganda a few weeks back for treatment near her family,” Kyagulanyi revealed.

“Fight on, comrade! The struggle for freedom and democracy in Uganda is poorer without you, but the evil regime will never have the last laugh,” Bobi Wine declared.

In conclusion, Robert Kyagulanyi confirmed that Marinos died at 1:30am on Sunday, calling her a comrade who “joins hundreds of other victims of the Museveni regime of blood and terror.”
