KAMULI—Police in Kamuli District are investigating the brutal murder of a 13-year-old boy who was allegedly lured from his home with a false promise of employment.
The deceased, identified as Fred Bwoya, a resident of Butaasa Village in Bugaya Sub-county, Buyende District, was reportedly taken by a family acquaintance known as Mande, who promised him work cutting sugarcane in Bulopa Sub-county, Kamuli District.
According to police, the boy left home on Thursday, February 19, 2026. The following day, his mother, Sylvia Nakisuyi, received information that her son had been involved in an accident. However, upon reaching Kamuli, she instead found his body.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the minor was stabbed to death by unknown assailants shortly after being brought to the area.
The Busoga North Police spokesperson confirmed that one suspect—the brother of the alleged recruiter—has been arrested and is assisting with investigations. The prime suspect, Mande, remains at large as security agencies intensify the manhunt.
The body was transported to Kamuli General Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination before being handed over to the family for burial.
Authorities have condemned the incident, warning the public against deceptive job offers targeting minors. Child labor remains illegal under Ugandan law, and police have urged parents and guardians to verify employment claims before allowing children to leave home.
Investigations into the motive behind the killing are ongoing.
