NDEJJE, August 29, 2026 — A 38-year-old boda boda rider was shot dead during the National Cleaning Day exercise in Ndejje Kanaaba on Saturday morning, with police arresting an officer accused of firing the fatal shot.
The incident happened at about 7:30 a.m. within the Katwe Police Division area, where police officers from Ndejje Police Station had been deployed to provide security during the community cleaning exercise.
According to preliminary police findings, the rider allegedly attempted to force his way through a restricted area on his motorcycle despite the security arrangements in place.
Police identified the officer allegedly involved as Police Constable Allan Okello, who is attached to Ndejje Police Station.

Okello was arrested after the shooting as investigators began examining the circumstances surrounding the rider’s death.
The deceased was identified as Ronald Kizito Jjuuko, 38, using his national identity card.
Police said the investigation will establish what led to the officer discharging his firearm and whether the use of force was in accordance with the law and established police procedures.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation, and the arrest of the officer does not by itself establish criminal responsibility.
The police force expressed condolences to Jjuuko’s family, relatives and friends following the incident.
Police also reiterated that officers have a legal responsibility to maintain public order and protect lives and property. At the same time, the force emphasised that the use of force must be lawful, necessary and proportionate to the circumstances.
The investigation is expected to shed more light on what happened at the restricted area and the events that led to the fatal shooting.
