Ministry of Health Confirms Polio Outbreak in Mbale City
News reaching our platform say that the Ministry of Health has confirmed that there is a polio outbreak in Mbale City.
In an audio statement released today, September 25, 2024, the Ministry of Health says there is an outbreak of polio in Mbale City and is going to carry out a mass immunisation of children below 5 years.
The mass polio immunisation will cover 49 districts neighbouring Mbale City from the Bugisu, Bukedi, Busoga, Teso, Sebei, and Karamoja regions.

The Ministry plans to hold two rounds of polio immunisation, with the first House-to-House round taking off on Thursday, October 3rd, to October 6th. Health workers are expected to move to all public gathering places, such as schools, daycare centres, churches, homes, and workplaces.
“The Ministry of Health is conducting a free house-to-house polio vaccination campaign for children aged 5 years and below across 49 districts bordering Mbale City. This will take place from 3rd to 6th October, 2024. Please cooperate with the health workers to ensure your child is vaccinated against polio,” reads the statement in part.
In conclusion, this round of immunisation does not replace the routine vaccination.
