Police in Mbale City have arrested Akram Kairoki, a Senior Three student at Mbale High School, for allegedly murdering his schoolmate, Shafik Wasike, a 19-year-old Senior Four student.
The incident happened on 23August 2025,after the football match of Arsenal vs Leeds United at Amber Stores in the Indian Quarters, Mbale City, where these students reportedly developed fights after being released from school. Kairoki is said to have used a sharp object to stab Wasike, who was later pronounced dead at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital, where he was rushed by three colleagues.
Speaking to Bugisu Intellectual, Elgon Region Police spokesperson Rogers Taitika confirmed the arrest, saying Kairoki was tracked down after days of searching.

“Our team has been tracing him in several areas of Busoga and Buganda, but we finally got him in Nakwigalo Cell, Busulwe Town Council, Butaleja District. He is now in our custody at Mbale City Police and will be paraded before court,” Taitika said.
“As police, we want to remind students that anyone above 12 years can be paraded in court to answer for criminal charges,” he added.
The late Shafik Wasike, a resident of Bujoloto in Nkoma Ward, Mbale City, was laid to rest at their ancestral home in Kabwagasi Town Council.
In conclusion, Taitika He thanked the community for providing information that led to the arrest and urged students to remain focused on their studies.
