Chelsea has officially announced the arrival of Portuguese midfielder Dario Essugo from Sporting Lisbon in a deal that keeps him at Stamford Bridge until 2033.
A product of Sporting Lisbon’s renowned academy, he made headlines in March 2021 when he debuted for the senior side at the age of 16 years and six days, setting a club record as their youngest-ever player.
Essugo, who impressed during his loan spell with La Liga side Las Palmas last season, has been a standout figure in Portugal’s youth setup. At just 20 years old, he has already amassed a wealth of experience both domestically and internationally.

Furthermore, the younger star has featured extensively for Sporting’s B team and clocked up 23 first-team appearances.
It’s remembered that at the start of the 2024/25 season, Essugo made a pair of appearances for Sporting before heading to Spain’s top flight on loan with Las Palmas. There, he became a key component of their midfield, appearing 27 times and contributing a goal in all competitions.
In conclusion, Chelsea fans are eagerly looking forward to seeing one of Portugal’s brightest prospects continue his development in London.
