Two police officers in Bugiri District have been taken into custody as investigations continue into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a 33-year-old man during a dawn operation.

The incident happened at around 4:40 a.m. in Nambale Village, located in Nambale Parish, Buwunga Sub-county, according to Busoga East Regional Police spokesperson Michael Kasadha.

The deceased, identified as Alamanzani Mugoya, was reportedly a resident of the area.

Authorities confirmed that the officers under investigation are Innocent Wagaba, the officer-in-charge of Buwunga Police Station, and Stephen Okwalinga. Both are attached to the same station.

Preliminary reports suggest that the officers had gone to arrest another suspect, Nasiru Mugoya, over allegations of assault. However, the situation escalated after the suspect allegedly raised an alarm, attracting relatives and members of the community.

Police say a group of residents reportedly confronted the officers using crude weapons, including sticks and stones, in an attempt to block the arrest.
