The Catholic Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese, Paul Ssemogerere, has said the poor will not see the Kingdom of Heaven.

The prelate declared yesterday, Monday, August 14, that those to whom God gave life and health but did not use them to build wealth on earth will receive the eternal punishment of hell.

Ssemogerere told Uncoveredug news reporters, “So, do not sit there and assume that the poor are the ones going to heaven, not at all.”.

“God is not taking you to heaven if you are poor. You are not going,” he added.

However, The Kampala Archbishop was speaking at a celebration to mark the Priestly Golden Jubilee and Episcopal consecration for H.E. Archbishop Dr. Augustine Kasujja.

Bishop Ssemogerere, while presiding over the function, emphasized what he called God’s distaste for laziness.

Even he, the prelate said after his death, will be pointing out those to be sent to hell for dying poor.

“I will also be there saying that one should not enter heaven,” said the prelate.

“God will say to you, ‘I gave you eyes and the brains; I gave you hands and I gave you health, and yet you died without doing something on earth? Go get burned.'”

Kasujja works in the diplomatic service of the Holy See. He was the Apostolic Nuncio to Belgium from 2016 to 2021 and the first black African to hold the title of Apostolic Nuncio.

In conclusion, some followers received his message positively, while others deemed it contradictory to the Holy Scriptures, wherein Jesus Christ described how difficult it was for the wealthy to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
