A tragic accident along the Katosi-Nyenga road in Buwooya village, Buikwe District, has left two people dead and several others injured.
However, the incident involved a police vehicle, registration number UP 7503, which veered off the road and overturned multiple times after the driver reportedly lost control.
The accident occurred around 8:00 a.m., with five occupants traveling from Nyenga to Mukono. The deceased have been identified as the driver, Sam Emusugutu, and Faustino Ejaapu, a cousin to AIP Esther Amasikido.
Furthermore AIP Amasikido, her two sons (aged 6 and 2), her maid Mary Achieng, and a juvenile cousin sustained injuries and were rushed to St. Charles Lwanga Hospital in Buikwe. The two fatalities were pronounced dead upon arrival, and their bodies have been transferred to Kawolo Hospital for postmortem examinations.
This incident follows another accident on the same road involving a Goglon bus that left several passengers injured, sparking concerns over road safety along the Katosi-Nyenga route.
SP Hellen Butoto, the Ssezibwa Region Police spokesperson, has urged motorists to exercise caution, particularly during the festive season when traffic increases. Authorities are investigating the accidents and reiterate the importance of adhering to speed limits and ensuring vehicles are roadworthy.
In conclusion, as investigations continue, this tragic event serves as a somber reminder of the need for vigilance and safety on our roads.
