Leicester City have confirmed that Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the club following Steven Cooper’s dismissal. Van Nistelrooy takes the rein at the Foxes weeks after leaving Manchester United.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s successful spell as Man United interim manager may not have been enough to convince Amorim to include him in his coaching staff, but it was certainly sufficient for Leicester to appoint him new head coach.

The 48-year-old joins the Foxes just two weeks after he beat them twice while in charge at United—5-2 in the Carabao Cup and 3-0 in the Premier League—taking over from Steve Cooper, who was dismissed earlier this week.

Former Chelsea boss Graham Potter and David Moyes were reportedly targeted by Leicester for the role ahead of the former striker, but were quickly ruled out.

“I’m proud, I’m excited,” he said after penning the contract, which is valid until June 2027. “Everybody that I speak to about Leicester City is enthusiastic. They have great stories about the quality of the people working at the club, the supporters, and, of course, the recent history of the club, which is impressive. I’m excited to start and to get to know everyone and give everything I can for the football club.”

Furthermore, the Dutchman will have to wait until December 3, when Leicester play West Ham at home, to lead his side for the first time.

In conclusion, Leicester is his first permanent managerial job since PSV Eindhoven, where he was at the helm for a year before leaving at the end of the 2022–23 season. Van Nistelrooy held talks with Burnley but ended up returning to Old Trafford to become Ten Hag’s assistant manager.
