10 confirmed dead in Kyenjojo Pokopoko Bus – Taxi Accident
Ten people have been confirmed dead in Kyenjojo District following a collision between a bus and a taxi. The accident occurred Wednesday morning at Kaihura along the Fort Portal-Kampala Road.
Rwenzori West Region Policespokesman Vincent Twesige confirmed that the fatal collision involved a Pokopoko Bus, registration number UBE 807T, and a Toyota Hiace Taxi, registration number UBR 812G.
The Pokopoko Bus, which was traveling from Kampala, collided with the taxi that was on its way from Fort Portal to Kampala. Police say the deceased include the driver of the commuter taxi, whose identity was not immediately established.

The others who perished in the crash are all adults: James Byarugaba, Fred Rwobucence, James Tumwine, Bamuhiga Pio, Najera Kamureba, and one Noreda, a woman.
Others are Deus Machati, Moses Mashijja, and an adult male only identified as Rugirira.
Those injured are Medard Nsinikweri, Benjamin Natuhwera, and Fatima Tumwijukye. However, preliminary investigations by the police suggest that the taxi driver lost control and veered into the bus’s lane, resulting in a head-on collision.
The taxi operator and nine passengers, including eight males and two females, lost their lives in the crash. Regional and District Traffic Officers inspected the scene, and the bodies were transported to Kyenjojo Hospital for postmortem examinations.
The wreckage of the vehicles has been towed to Kyenjojo Central Police Station, and police investigations are ongoing under reference number TAR 117/2024.
The identities of the victims were not immediately established by the time of publishing this article. Twesige confirmed that the accident was due to reckless driving by the taxi driver and emphasized the need for caution on the road.
