Police in Gulu have arrested two 18-year-old men in connection with the killing of a Gulu University student whose body was found by the roadside earlier this month.
The deceased, Ocen John Bosco Ngire, 23, was a third-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Education degree, majoring in Literature at the university.
According to police, Ngire was allegedly attacked and killed by unknown assailants on the night of October 10. His body was later discovered in Agwee Cell, Pece-Laroo Division, Gulu City.
The suspects were arrested by police in Aswa West Region working alongside other security agencies following investigations and intelligence leads.
Police identified them as Omara Gerald, alias Torach, and Rom Ambrose, alias Geng. Both are residents of Agwee Cell in Gulu City.
During the investigation, police said the suspects gave accounts of how the killing was allegedly carried out and led security officers to the scene where the incident is believed to have happened.
Investigators also recovered exhibits that could help establish what happened, including a pair of shoes believed to have belonged to Ngire and a hammer suspected to have been used to strike him on the head.
Police said investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the student’s death and collect further evidence.
The arrest comes as investigators continue to piece together the events leading to the killing. The suspects’ alleged involvement remains subject to the ongoing investigation and the legal process.
