Kisoro Resident District Commissioner(RDC), Mr. Hajji Shafiq Ssekandi has promised to support the mudslide victims in areas of Murora and Chahafi town Council who were affected.
A heavy rainfall which has spen six days raining from morning to evening left several houses destroyed as well as crops were damaged, exposing the citizens to acquisition to famine and diseases.
That heavy downpour of rainfall led to the death of more than eight people and several others with injuries.
While delivering nonfood relief items from United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) Sekandi commended UNHCR for positively responding to the district’s polite demand to offer emergency aid to affected persons.
Sekandi noted that the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) has already procured food relief items.
Minister of State for Disaster Preparedness Hon. Esther Anyakun is expected to personally deliver a consignment to the affected communities.
A report from the District Disaster Management Committee revealed that at least 111 houses have been completely destroyed.
A total of 173 houses were submerged with water while 800 people have been declared homeless and they are lacking where to sleep. Our Country needs prayers
Among the items delivered from UNHCR include 900 hoes, 900 shovels, 600 tarpaulins, 1,500 blankets, 1,500 sleeping mats, 1,500 pieces of assorted clothes while a truck of posho from OPM arrived in Kisoro.
