He told the Uncovered Ug media team that “President Samia Suluhu Hassan deliberately kept him in prison during the campaign period to compete against herself, effectively denying the nation a fair and free election.”

Furthermore, he insists that his imprisonment during the campaign period was a deliberateattempt by President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s government to silence him and tilt the race in her favor. By staying behind bars, Lissu says he is standing up against what he calls “a democracy robbed of choice.”

Supporters have described his decision as both brave and defiant, a gesture that captures the frustration of many Tanzanians who believe the political system is rigged against change. Outside the prison walls, chants of “Lissu ni sauti ya wananchi” echoed as supporters celebrated his acquittal but demanded justice beyond the courtroom.

In conclusion, we shall update you on whether the president will allow him to stay in prison for those days or he will be taken to his home.
