On Wednesday, a devastating road crash occurred along the Masindi-Pakwach road in Masindi district, near the enchanting Murchison Falls National Park. This catastrophic incident claimed the lives of six individuals and left two others critically injured, sending shockwaves throughout the community.
The incident revolved around an Isuzu truck with the registration number UAZ 404H, which was on a journey carrying both passengers and construction materials bound for Pakwach, originating from Uganda’s capital, Kampala. The journey that was supposed to be a routine trip turned into a nightmare, leaving the community in deep sorrow.
The identities of the victims have been revealed by the local police, highlighting the tragic loss of Vincent Odoch, a 29-year-old driver; Muhammed Swaleh, aged 23; Oscar Nyankoli, 23, a resident of Lira district; Aron Akandwanaho, 24, hailing from Rukiiga district; and Constance Bizimana, 24. Unfortunately, the sixth victim remains unidentified at this time.
The injured parties, Emmanuel Muhuruzi and an individual known only as Otim, were swiftly transported to the Mulago National Referral Hospital, where they are receiving critical medical care in the hopes of a full recovery.
In the aftermath of this heartbreaking incident, the bodies of the departed souls have been moved to the Masindi General Hospital mortuary, where they will undergo a postmortem examination, a necessary step in the process of understanding the full scope of this tragedy.
