Former Ugandan comedian Sam Okanya, once a member of the popular comedy group Da Mighty Family, has officially transformed his path from entertainment to ministry, embracing a new life as Pastor Sam Okanya.
Okanya has started Emmaus Ministry International, a church he says was established to serve God, restore hope, and rebuild lives through faith and community engagement.
From Comedy to becoming a pastor
Sam Okanya rose to public attention through comedy, where he entertained audiences across Uganda. However, his journey later took a challenging turn following an unstable comedy career, political involvement, and personal struggles that significantly altered his life path.
According to Okanya, these experiences pushed him into deep reflection, ultimately leading him to fully embrace faith and spiritual service.

Founding Emmaus Ministry International church
After committing himself to Christianity, Okanya founded Emmaus Ministry International, positioning the church as a place of healing, unity, and spiritual renewal. He now leads congregants as a pastor, focusing on guiding people through faith-based teachings and community building.
His ministry is driven by a message of unity, often summarized in his guiding words:
“Coming together is the beginning. Working together is progress.”
