Rukiga District Health worker rapes 7 months pregnant woman

The territorial police in Rukiga District have arrested a health worker, Darius Orikiriza, 38, an enrolled nurse attached to Mparo Health Center IV, for allegedly raping a twenty-year-old pregnant woman.

Orikiriza, a resident of the health center quarters in Mparo ward/town council in Rwamucucu sub-county Rukiga district, allegedly raped a 20-year-old woman, Elizabeth Orishaba, a resident of Maaya cell, Kitanga parish, in Kashambya sub-county Rukiga district.

However, a team of detectives was dispatched, commanded by the District Police Commander and OC CID, who documented the scene, arrested the suspect, and obtained swabs from the victim and the suspect from the health workers from the same facility for onward submission to GAL for analysis.

According to the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, on August 21, 2023, at around 1 p.m., the victim, who is 7 months pregnant, had gone for a medical checkup at the said medical facility and was referred to the scanning department, which was now being operated by the suspect.

Maate adds that on arrival, she was directed to remove her clothes and was accordingly forced into canal knowledge.

Additionally, The victim narrates that thereafter, she immediately informed the person in charge of the facility, who later informed the police for further management.

In conclusion, Maate confided to the press that inquiries into the case continue and that a case of rape has been recorded at Rukiga Central Police Station under file number CRB 361/2023.
