For a better Uganda, the Ministry of Works and Transport has officially announced a temporary closure of a section of the Mbarara–Ishaka road to allow for urgent maintenance works.
According to a public notice issued by the Ministry, the affected stretch—from Km 3+500 at Ruharo to Km 3+900 near the Buffalo Restaurant roundabout—will be closed on Friday, November 7, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to midnight. The closure is to facilitate emergency works at Km 3+700, located near Woodland Gardens.
Drivers of heavy trucks and buses have been advised to use alternative routes via the Mbarara bypass, specifically through the Coca-Cola and Ruti roundabouts. Light vehicle users are encouraged to use the Ntare–Kyamugurani road to reconnect to the Mbarara–Ishaka highway.

“The Ministry regrets any inconvenience this may cause and appreciates the public’s cooperation,” the statement signed by Permanent Secretary Bageya Waiswa read in part.
Waiswa told our media team that “We regret any inconvenience and appreciate your cooperation as our teams carry out emergency maintenance. These works are necessary to ensure the safety and efficiency of one of Uganda’s most important highways.”
The Ministry has assured residents and travelers that the maintenance forms part of broader efforts to rehabilitate the highway and address longstanding safety concerns.
The Mbarara–Ishaka road is a key transport corridor connecting western Uganda to major trade routes, and the ministry emphasized that the maintenance works are intended to ensure safety and reliability for all road users.
In conclusion, we encourage the people of Mbarara to cooperate with the workers to help in strengthening the road transport.
