New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart will miss the rest of the 2026 regular season after suffering a serious knee injury, dealing a major blow to the team just two games into the new NFL season.
Giants head coach John Harbaugh confirmed Wednesday that Dart will undergo season-ending knee surgery. NFL Network reported that further testing showed damage to Dart’s left MCL, PCL and meniscus, although his ACL remains intact.
Dart was injured during the Giants’ Week 2 game against the Los Angeles Rams. He went down during New York’s opening drive after taking a hard hit while attempting a pass.
He did not return to the game as the Giants eventually suffered a 28-6 defeat to the Rams.

Jameis Winston takes over at quarterback
With Dart sidelined, veteran quarterback Jameis Winston is expected to take over as the Giants’ starter.
Winston replaced Dart against the Rams but completed 11 of 27 passes for 111 yards and an interception. He will now have the opportunity to lead the Giants for the remainder of the regular season.
The Giants had opened the season with optimism after Dart produced an impressive performance in their 28-20 victory over the Dallas Cowboys.
In that game, Dart completed 23 of 29 passes for 230 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions.
Giants face new challenge
Dart’s injury comes at a difficult time for New York, which is preparing to face the Tennessee Titans in Week 3.
The Giants entered the season with Dart viewed as an important part of their plans at quarterback. His absence now leaves Winston with a major responsibility as the team tries to move forward without its young starter.
New York is also dealing with other injury concerns, with linebacker Brian Burns expected to miss time while offensive tackle Andrew Thomas has a chance to return against Tennessee.
For Dart, the focus will now turn to his recovery following surgery, while the Giants must adjust their plans for the rest of the season.
The Giants will host the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, September 27.
