Kampala, Uganda — April 19, 2026 — A 44-year-old police officer has died following a solo motorcycle accident in Kampala, which authorities suspect was caused by a mechanical issue.
Preliminary findings suggest the officer was riding alone when the motorcycle suddenly became unstable. Investigators believe a failure to retract the kickstand may have caused it to strike the road surface, interfering with the bike’s movement and leading to the crash.
Eyewitnesses reported that the motorcycle wobbled unexpectedly before the rider was thrown off. The officer sustained critical injuries and was later pronounced dead.
Police say no other vehicle appears to have been involved, pointing to a possible rider or equipment-related cause. A formal investigation is underway to confirm the exact sequence of events.

Road safety observers note that motorcycles require careful pre-ride inspection, as even small oversights can quickly escalate into life-threatening situations. An extended kickstand, in particular, can disrupt balance if it makes contact with the ground while the bike is moving.
The name of the deceased has not yet been released as officials work to notify family members.
