Rubanda Midnight Accident kills Eight Congolese
In Rubanda District, the police officers have registered an accident that claimed the lives of 8 people and left 29 others seriously injured.
However, Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson Elly Maate has confirmed the accident that took place last night towards midnight at Kamukirwa cell in Nyarurambi Ward in Rubanda town council, along Kabale-Kisoro road in Rubanda district.
Maate said that the vehicle registration number UBK 037K lost control after the driver failed to negotiate a sharp bend and overturned several times, and the deceased included 3 female juveniles, 3 female adults, and 2 male all adults whose names were not available by press time.

Furthermore, he explained that it is alleged that the driver of the vehicle failed to brake and negotiate a sharp corner and fell approximately 100 meters off road and is suspected to have been carrying Congolese nationals who are believed to have escaped from Rwamwaja Refugee camp in Kamwenge district, but investigations are still on.
Maate said that the bodies of deceased persons were conveyed to Kabale Hospital Mortuary by vehicle registration number UG 7128M of Rubanda District Covid Emergency Response, while the wreckage of the ill-fated vehicle was recovered from scene by breakdown and towed to Rubanda police station as enquiries continue.
In conclusion, Maate explained that 29 others who were injured were all rushed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital with the help of ambulances from Kisoro and Rubanda.
