A rent dispute between Muwema & Co. Advocates and its landlord, Downtown Investments Ltd., has ended in the eviction of the law firm from its Kololo offices in Kampala.
The firm was reportedly removed from the premises after failing to clear rent arrears totaling USD 372,300 (approximately UGX 1.34 billion).
The eviction was executed by court bailiffs on Friday, who arrived at the premises alongside security personnel to enforce the landlord’s repossession order. During the exercise, property belonging to the firm was removed from the offices as the landlord reclaimed the building.

Sources say the landlord had previously issued several notices demanding payment of the outstanding rent before opting to pursue legal remedies.
Kololo, widely regarded as one of Kampala’s prime business districts, hosts numerous corporate offices, law firms, and diplomatic missions. The eviction of a prominent legal firm from the area has therefore raised eyebrows among members of the legal and business communities.
It remains unclear whether the firm plans to challenge the eviction through the courts or relocate its operations to another location in the city.
