The family of the late Mzee Nathan Okori Adiyo is preparing for his burial as well as final send-off, scheduled to take place on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, in Omoro District.
The burial arrangements were officially communicated by the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, during a parliamentary sitting. She noted that the date was agreed upon after close consultations with the family and relevant authorities.
According to the program, the late will be laid to rest at his ancestral home in Omoro, where relatives, leaders, and mourners from across the country are expected to gather in large numbers.
Mzee Okori passed away on March 20, 2026, at St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor after a short illness linked to respiratory complications. He had been admitted to the facility just days before his death.
His passing has stirred deep emotions among Ugandans, coming exactly four years after the death of his son, Jacob Oulanyah, who died on March 20, 2022, in Seattle, United States.
The coincidence has been described by several leaders as both symbolic and heartbreaking. The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Norbert Mao, referred to the moment as “uncanny,” noting the rare alignment of dates in the family’s history
“This is a deeply emotional moment. On the same date we remember Speaker Oulanyah, we are now mourning his father,” Mao remarked.
