Police in Kanungu District have apprehended two suspects for questioning in connection with the death of a 49-year-old man in Kanyantorogo Sub County.
According to a statement from the police, on Monday at approximately 01:30 PM, the deceased ventured into his coffee plantation for harvesting but failed to return home until yesterday around 08:00 AM. His absence prompted concern from his son, who then inquired about his whereabouts from neighbors.
The suspects, identified as Ivan Ampumuza (20) and Moreen Tukamushaba (23), both residents of Bushoro cell, Nyamigoye Parish, Kanyantorogo Sub County, Kanungu District, stand accused of killing Bernard Byamugisha, a farmer and fellow resident of the area.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson, stated that upon receiving this information, community members organized a search within the coffee plantation. Tragically, they discovered the body of the deceased lying approximately 3 kilometers from his residence.
Maate noted that the deceased had been embroiled in long-standing familial disputes, with occasional threats made against his life by family members, particularly his children.
Maate further disclosed that the deceased was found lying on his back with visible strangulation marks on his neck. He emphasized that the police swiftly responded to the situation, conducting a thorough examination of the crime scene, documenting relevant evidence, obtaining statements, and performing a postmortem examination at the scene. Subsequently, the body was released to the family for a proper burial.
In conclusion, Maate indicated that the two individuals in custody, who happen to be the biological son and daughter of the deceased, will assist in the ongoing investigation.
