News reaching our news desk indicates that Kamuli police have arrested a 21-year-old woman, Zainabu Mulungi, on allegations of killing and secretly burying her one-year-old daughter, Kabawo Hadija, in Nalinaibi village, Nawanyago sub-county.

However, it’s neighbours and relatives who grew suspicious after noticing the child’s absence for two days in the area.

When police asked Mulungi, she claimed she had taken her daughter to the hospital. However, she left home on Tuesday and was only found upon her arrest in Kamuli Municipality.

On Friday night, March 14, a foul smell led family members to a shallow grave near Mulungi’s home. After alerting the local chairperson, they confirmed it was the child’s burial site and reported the matter to the police.

Investigators established that Mulungi’s husband, Asuman Kabawo, was away in Mbulamuti at the time. The couple had earlier taken their daughter for medical attention before he left, unaware of the tragedy that would unfold.

Detectives visited the scene, exhumed the body, and transported it to Kamuli General Hospital for a postmortem examination.

Busoga North Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Kasadha Michael commended the community for reporting the matter, saying investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the child’s death.

In conclusion, authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to prevent similar tragedies.
