In an exclusive interview with the Uncovered Ug media team, Peter Ogwang, state minister for sports, confirmed that Hoima City Stadium will be the “best Christmas gift” Ugandans can expect this year, as the project enters its final stretch.
However, he shared updates from Turkish contractor SUMMA, confirming that several key installations are already complete, with full handover expected ahead of schedule.
The sound system, floodlights, landscaping, and furnishing of changing rooms are all finished, while murals and other art features, including a giant Uganda flag mural, have also been completed.

Furthermore, final touches are ongoing across the facility, with work now concentrated on laying the tartan athletics track around the main football pitch and finalizing the indoor arena.
The $129 million project, fully funded by oil revenues, is central to Uganda’s preparations for co-hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

Relatedly, Deputy Governor of the Bank of Uganda, Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba, earlier this week, led a delegation from the Bank of Uganda and the Petroleum Authority of Uganda on a tour of the stadium as part of their visit to the Albertine Graben.
Bank of Uganda, as the custodian of the Petroleum Fund, is directly tied to the financing of the project and its wider economic impact in the oil-rich region.

In conclusion, when completed, it will feature a 20,000-seater main stadium, a 2,000-capacity indoor arena, training pitches, a semi-Olympic swimming pool, and outdoor courts.
