The National Drug Authority (NDA) has arrested a Senior Clinical Officer and a health assistant in Isingiro for stealing government drugs, recovering over 500,000 ARV doses and other medical supplies. Authorities urge the public to report drug theft cases
According to the NDA spokesperson Abiaz Rwamwiri, Muzahura who has been on the run for days, was arrested following a joint special operation with the police.
“Through our intelligence, we got to know he has been involved in the theft of government drugs…With the aide of his accomplice one Bridget Barusa they managed to get the consignments of drugs from the health centre 4 where they were working from” he added

Rwamwiri noted that Muzahura had run from the long arm of the law after over 500,000 doses of ARVs, 2,680 doses of anti-malaria drugs, HIV testing kits, and other medications were recovered from the suspect’s residence in Katete, Nyamitanga, Mbarara City South Division.“The two were first on the run but we first arrested Bridget who was yesterday (Thursday) sentenced to three years imprisonment by the Isingiro Chief Magistrate” he said.

Rwamwiri noted that since 2019, the NDA has recovered stolen government drugs worth UGX 15 billion and further called on Ugandans to remain vigilant and report cases of drug theft in government institutions.
