News reaching our media team says that the funeral arrangements for Dr. John Spire Kiggundu, a prominent gynecologist and founder of Henrob Laparoscopy Hospital, who died Sunday, have been announced.
His brother, Dr. Jim Spire Ssentongo, a lecturer at Makerere University, shared the tentative burial program on X.
Today, Monday, a requiem mass is scheduled at 1 p.m. at Lweza Parish, followed by a second mass at 4 p.m. at Henrob Hospital in Zzana. Additionally, an official vigil will be held at his home in Zzana.

On Tuesday morning, the funeral procession will depart for Masaka, where another vigil will take place at his home in Kalisizo, Kyotera district. The burial is set for Wednesday at his home in Kalisizo.
Dr. Kiggundu’s passing was announced by his brother, who wrote on X, “I announce the sudden passing of my brother, Dr. John Spire Kiggundu of Henrob Hospital-Zzana.”

Authorities have not released details on the circumstances or cause of his death, which is under investigation.
Dr. Kiggundu was a respected figure in Uganda’s medical community, known for his expertise in obstetrics, endometriosis surgery, and fertility. He pioneered minimal access surgery and established the Pan-African Endometriosis Center.
As founder and director of Henrob Laparoscopy Hospital, Dr. Kiggundu trained over 70 specialists in minimal access surgery. He held various professional affiliations, including president of the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Uganda.
Dr. Kiggundu was also executive director of the Padre Pio Rural Development Initiative, a non-governmental organization focused on healthcare and community development.
In conclusion, the burial for Dr. John Spire Kiggundu of Henrob Hospital-Zana will be held on Wednesday in Kalisizo. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
