The Democratic Party (DP) has encouraged all citizens to actively participate in the national census process, which will take place from May 10 to May 19, 2024. This statement was made during the party’s weekly press release on May 7, 2024, at the party headquarters located at City House, Kampala.
However, the party spokesperson, Ismail Kirya, emphasized that as DP, they advocate for all Ugandans to freely engage in the national census process, highlighting that the statistics gathered from the census are essential for the government to plan effectively for its citizens and the country.
“No matter the prevailing circumstances in the country, it is crucial not to boycott the National Census as these numbers will assist the government in identifying the need for additional schools, hospitals, and medical supplies,” he stated.

Kirya urged the enumerators and other census officials to maintain professionalism and a sense of humor, recognizing that they will encounter people with varying attitudes.
“Given the current challenges in the country, such as governance issues and economic difficulties, enumerators will encounter individuals in different emotional states. It is imperative for them to conduct themselves professionally and with patience during the census process,” he emphasized.
In conclusion, Uganda is preparing to conduct its National Population and Housing Census 2024 under the theme “It matters to be counted,” scheduled to take place digitally for the first time by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS)
