Police in Isingiro District are investigating a case of kidnapping and murder of Turyasingura Evaristo, 47, a businessman and chairperson of LC1 Rugarama Cell Kamubeizi Town Council.

Kasasitra adds that on August 20, 2023, at about 9 p.m., the same people called the deceased to meet them at Keizibate stage along Kikagate Mbarara road so that they could proceed for the said meeting. It’s from here that the deceased parked a few clothes and proceeded to the place on a boda boda ridden by his son, Tuhirirwe Gidoen.

According to the Rwizi regional police spokesman, SP Samson Kasasira, it’s alleged that on Friday, August 18, 2023, an unknown person called the deceased, inviting him to attend an MK project meeting at the Igongo Hotel, and even sent him an allowance of Ugx. 100,000 on his Airtel money on August 19, 2023, to lure him into accepting to travel.

Kasasira told our reporter that the deceased’s body was discovered on Monday, August 21st, 2023, at about 5:30 p.m. at Kyamusoni mile 48 along Kikagate Kitwe road, tied with ropes and strangled with a piece of cloth, from where it was retrieved to the Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.

When they reached the stage, they found a Toyota Wish motor vehicle with registration number plates covered with MK project stickers, and on entering it, it was driven so fast that it caused suspicion in the son’s mind. Upon the son’s arrival home, they tried to contact the deceased and those who had invited him for a meeting, but all their phones were already off.

The Regional Police mouthpiece confided to the media that the motive for the murder has not been established and no arrests have been made yet, but investigations are still ongoing into the matter.
