In the Teso region, the only bridge connecting Bukedea district in eastern Uganda to Butebo is nearing completion, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Works and Transport today, Monday, June 17, 2024.
According to the Ministry of Works that is supervising the works, Onyamalugai box culvert and swamp construction along Komuge-Kadesok-Kakoro road is being constructed through a training project under the Mount Elgon Labour-Based Training Center.
The Onyamalugai box culvert is a three-cell structure of 4 m x 3 m with six triple barrel relief culverts (1.2 m internal diameter each) along the same swamp.

Furthermore, the main structure is located at the eye of the Lwere River, which has its origins in the Bugisu Hills. Once completed, the bridge will ease the movement of goods and services between the two districts of Bukedea and Butebo and will foster economic growth.
The two districts had been cut off after the drainage structures that had initially been constructed by the District of Bukedea were washed away during the heavy rains of 2021.
In conclusion, here at uncoveredug, we want to congratulate the Ministry of Transport in cooperation with the government of Uganda on the completion of the Bukedea Bridge.
