News reaching our platform confirms that the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP), as well as the Director of Human Rights and Legal Services, Charles Kataratambi, has died.
However, the deceased passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2025, after battling diabetes and related complications.
The death statement was confirmed by police, who described him as an untimely loss and extended condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.

“The Uganda Police Force fraternity deeply regrets to announce the untimely passing of Assistant Inspector General of Police Kataratambi Charles, Director of Human Rights and Legal Services, which occurred today, 02 October 2025,” the statement read.
“Details regarding the burial arrangements will be shared in due course. The UPF conveys heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the departed officer. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
Furthermore, Kataratambi joined the force in 2001, serving in key units including CID, the Flying Squad, and the Media Crimes Unit. In 2013, he was appointed SID commander, a role that made him a central figure in high-profile investigations and controversies, including the Katosi road scam probe.
He was promoted to AIGP in May 2024 and appointed Director of Human Rights and Legal Services at Naguru Police Headquarters, a position he held until his death.
