The reasons behind the Suspension of S6 Ntare School Students
The suspension came at a time when the students were left with about 3 weeks until the start of the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) final exams
On Wednesday, October 3, 2023, Uganda’s prestigious high schools, Ntare School, suspended the entire senior six class of 2023 following unrest that ensued at the school, which resulted in property damage.
The suspension came at a time when the students were left with about 3 weeks until the start of the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) final exams, a move that has left both students and parents in dismay.
Furthermore, the student was then forwarded by a teacher to the school administration for further action, which escalated into an indefinite suspension.
A victim of the suspension, who spoke out on condition of anonymity, revealed that the chaos all started when a senior six student was caught with a button-phone (known locally as ka-torch) on school premises.
The student, who was found in possession of the phone, reportedly explained that the ka-torch phone served as an alarm to always wake him up early to have personal study ahead of the final exams; however, this was not reason enough to the Headmaster’s ears.
In conclusion, the solidarity displayed by classmates towards the affected student resulted in violence between the teachers and the senior six learners.
