Authorities in Tororo District have arrested a Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldier following the death of his wife after a domestic dispute at their home.

However, police say investigations are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident as family and community members call for justice and calm. The incident happened on Monday night, 29th December, 2025.

The suspect, identified as Tego Wanjala, is accused of fatally attacking his wife, Achieng Lucy, who was the daughter of the LCIII Chairperson of Parents Town Council. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, but local authorities and residents have expressed shock and outrage over the act.

The area LCIII Chairperson, who is also the father of the deceased, described Tego as a “rough individual” and condemned the act in the strongest terms. He urged members of the armed forces to seek guidance from community leaders and refrain from taking the law into their own hands.

Onyango Difas, a relative of the deceased, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, calling the incident “unfortunate” and demanding justice for Lucy. “We are heartbroken. This is a painful loss for our family. We call upon the authorities to ensure justice prevails,” he said. He also appealed to serving officers to uphold human dignity and resolve conflicts through lawful and humane means.

In conclusion, the local police have launched an investigation into the matter, and Tego Wanjala is currently in custody as inquiries continue. Furthermore, efforts to get a comment from Moses Mugwe, the Bukedi South Police Spokesman, have remained futile, as by the time of filing this story, his known phone number went unanswered.
