Police in Mukono have started an investigation into the drowning of a Senior Six student at Seeta High School, Mbalala Campus, in the school swimming pool on Sunday evening.
The dead has been identified as Kevin Nsamba, 21, who is said to have drowned at around 5:30pm shortly after participating in a football match with fellow students.
Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said Nsamba and several students rushed to the pool area, where a swimming session was underway under the supervision of a lifeguard.

Owoyesigyire told our news reporters that “The body was retrieved and taken to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination. The swimming pool trainer has been arrested to assist with ongoing investigations.”
“At the time, there were trainees in the pool under the supervision of a trainer or lifeguard, and Nsamba reportedly jumped into the deep end of the pool,” Owoyesigyire added.
Later that evening, after a movie session, students noticed Nsamba was missing. A search effort ensued through the night, but he was not found.
His disappearance was escalated to the dormitory captain, then the chief warden, and eventually reported to the school principal, who contacted police on Monday around midday.
A team comprising the regional CID officer, detectives, scene of crime officers, fire and rescue services, and forensic experts from the ICT department visited the scene and recorded statements from witnesses.
In conclusion, he confirmed that preliminary findings suggest the pool attendant was present at the time, and CCTV footage is being reviewed as part of the inquiry.
