The famous Ugandan photographer Saad Byakuleka died following a tragic motorcycle accident on Thursday evening at Bugonga Junction near the Air Base in Entebbe.

However, Byakuleka, who was known for his dynamic work in Uganda’s entertainment and creative arts scene, was among the two riders who died on the spot.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the incident in a brief statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Yes, it is true. Two motorcycles were involved in a fatal accident at Bugonga Junction near the air base.”

”Both riders were pronounced dead at the scene. Efforts are underway to have their bodies taken to Mulago City Mortuary,” he added.

Furthermore, Byakuleka’s death sparked an outpouring of grief across social media, with fellow creatives and fans mourning the loss of what many described as a rising star in visual storytelling. The accident adds to a growing number of motorcycle-related fatalities in Uganda.

According to the Uganda Police Annual Crime Report 2024, motorcyclists accounted for 1,720 deaths in road crashes, representing 33% of all traffic fatalities that year. When combined with motorcycle passengers, the figure rises to 2,334—nearly 47% of the total.

In conclusion, the report attributes the majority of crashes to reckless riding, speeding, and poor road conditions. However, we encourage road users to be very vigilant when using their means of transport.
