Tension flared in Kampala today as Ugandan police blocked members of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) from accessing the German Embassy in Kololo.
The group, led by PLU’s Director of Mobilization, Hon. Michael Mawanda, had organized a peaceful demonstration against what they claim are subversive activities by German Ambassador Mathias Schauer.
With placards held high and voices united, protestors marched toward the embassy chanting slogans like, “The colonial era ended. The ambassador must go.” The demonstrators accuse the ambassador of overstepping diplomatic boundaries and meddling in Uganda’s internal affairs—claims yet to be addressed publicly by the German mission.

Despite the peaceful nature of the protest, police swiftly intervened, blocking access to the embassy premises and dispersing the gathering. The protestors, however, maintained discipline, emphasizing their constitutional right to demonstrate and express national concern.
PLU insists that their movement is not anti-foreign but pro-sovereignty. “We are simply standing up for Uganda. No foreign official, however powerful, should interfere with our political direction or undermine our unity,” said Mawanda during a brief address before the blockade.
The incident adds to growing tension over international influence in local governance matters, raising questions about diplomatic limits and national self-determination.
In conclusion, as the story unfolds, Ugandans watch closely to see whether the government or the German Embassy will issue formal responses.
