Manchester City confirms the arrival of Belgian and Rennes winger Jeremy Doku on a five-year contract worth €60 million.
The Belgium international is the city’s third signing of the transfer window after Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea and Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol.
The winger has left French Ligue 1 side Rennes after scoring 10 goals and providing 12 assists in all competitions across three seasons with the club.
Doku has signed a five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium as a replacement for Riyad Mahrez, who left for Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli after spending five silverware-laden years with the club.
The signing of the Belgium international could reduce the playing time of Cole Palmer, raising competition for him after a strong start to the season.
Doku has been recognized as one of the most exciting and highly rated young wingers in European football.
His statement after joining Manchester City:
This is a great day for me, both personally and professionally.
Manchester City are the best team in world football, and joining them is something special for me and my family.
I am a young player with so much learning and improving to do. Working with Pep and his staff and playing alongside these world-class players will make me a much better person.
I feel so sure of that. I cannot wait to get started, and hopefully I can make the fans happy.
Doku’s care so far:
He began his senior career at home with Anderlecht, making his first senior team debut in 2018 at the age of 16, making 37 appearances in all competitions and scoring six goals before moving to the Stade de Rennes in 2020.
He played 92 times across all competitions for the club, registering 12 goals and 10 assists.
With his dribbling skills, blistering pace, and excellent ball control, which singled him out to international eyes, he earned the first call to the Belgium national team in 2020, representing the country both in the Euro 2020 and 2022 World Cup finals.
