News reaching our platform confirms that Kawempe South Honorable Mbaziira Kazibwe Bashir has officially joined Mathias Mpuuga’s Democratic Front party.
It’s remembered that the Member of Parliament for Kawempe South, who went to the parliament on the National Unity Platform (NUP) Party ticket, has officially left the party.
Announcing Hon. Mbaziira Kazibwe Bashiir’s defection today, Saturday, 21st June, 2025, Mpuuga posted on X saying, “Unveiling our newest signing, Hon. @Mbaziira Kazibwe Bashiir, MP for Kawempe South. Welcome to the winning team.”

Kazibwe’s defection follows the expression of interest by Bobi Wine’s brother, Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu, to contest for the Kawempe South MP seat in the 2026 general elections.
Chairman Nyanzi submitted his credentials to the National Unity Platform (NUP) Election Management Committee, expressing interest in contesting for the Kawempe South MP seat on the party’s ticket on Friday, 20th June, 2025.
Kaziibwe won the 2021 elections with 26,855 votes under the National Unity Platform (NUP) Party, beating the NRM’s Solomon Mayanja, who managed 6,818 votes.
In the coming elections, we are going to see many members joining the Democratic Front party, for example, the likes of Honorable Abed Bwanika and Joyce Bagala, among others.
In conclusion, Kazibwe Bashir joining the Democratic Front party is a major boost to the party.
