President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Hajjat Sharifah Buzeki as the new executive director of the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), a move aimed at strengthening the city’s management.

However, she has been serving as the Commissioner of Human Resource Management at the Ministry of Public Service and takes over from Frank Rusa, who has been acting in the position since September 2024.

Rusa took over after the president sacked Dorothy Kisaka, the former executive director, and her deputy, Eng. David Luyimbazi, over negligence related to the collapse of Kiteezi landfill that killed over 30 people.

Kisaka had served as the executive director for four years, achieving significant milestones, including the Kampala City Roads Rehabilitation Project and urban development initiatives aimed at transforming Kampala into a “smart city.”.

As the new Executive Director, Buzeki will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the city’s development plans, improving service delivery, and enhancing the overall quality of life for Kampala’s residents. Her appointment is seen as a positive step towards achieving these goals.

In conclusion, President Museveni has also named Benon Kigenyi as the new Deputy Executive Director of KCCA. The appointments are subject to formalisation by the Public Service Commission.
