Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and First Son, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Thursday launched a scathing attack on the former deputy CDF, Lt Gen Peter Elwelu, sparking public debate and raising concerns about tensions within the military’s top leadership.
On his X account (formerly Twitter), Gen Kainerugaba referred to Lt Gen Elwelu as a “Buffoon” and questioned his fitness to serve in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
“Elweru is a fool! He is completely unworthy of our great Army! He better run as fast as his small legs can carry him,” the CDf wrote in the latest post that has since gone viral on social media.

The post followed an earlier tweet in which Gen Muhoozi appeared to hint at plans to take action against someone he described as a “fool.” While he did not explicitly name Lt Gen Elwelu in the earlier post, the implication became clearer in light of the recent comments.
“There is one FOOL that I will arrest soon. He is hiding behind my father, but I will capture him. He comes from Teso,” Gen Muhoozi posted an hour before publicly identifying the ‘fool’ as Elwelu.
The public remarks have sparked widespread reactions, with many questioning the growing friction within the military hierarchy.
Lt Gen Elwelu, who hails from the Teso region, has not yet publicly responded to Gen Muhoozi’s remarks. However, political analysts and security experts are closely watching the developments, considering the critical roles both generals play in Uganda’s defence forces.
In conclusion, the reasons behind the fallout remain unclear, but observers suggest that such public disputes could undermine the cohesion and morale within the UPDF.
