Karim Musobya, a 45-year-old assistant accountant for Bugweri district, has been arrested for allegedly misappropriating Shs 300 million.
The arrest took a dramatic turn on Wednesday when Musobya reportedly invoked incantations and sprinkled magical charms to conjure a spell of doom on officers at the Busoga East Regional police headquarters in Iganga.
Musobya, who oversees salary payments for district employees, is accused of inflating the salaries of 23 workers, who subsequently returned the excess funds to him.

This unusual act created an uncomfortable stir in the regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) office. But in his defense, Musobya claimed that the charms were for his personal protection, a practice he says he has maintained since childhood.
He explained that he uses these “luck charms” to invoke ancestral protection during challenging times. Musobya insisted that the charms were not intended to intimidate the police but to help him overcome difficulties posed by his adversaries, who, he believes, seek to undermine his success.
Diana Nandawula, spokesperson for the Busoga East police, stated that Musobya’s arrest followed a thorough investigation that revealed the loss of Sh300 million through salary overpayments.
Nandawula further noted that Musobya had previously ignored a summons to provide a statement regarding the allegations, and his attempt to use charms during the arrest caught the police off guard.
Musobya is now facing charges of misappropriation of government funds and public nuisance for his actions during the arrest.
