News reaching our desk says that 52 officers from Uganda’s Special Forces Command (SFC) have officially retired from active service in a ceremony held at the SFC Headquarters in Entebbe.

However, SFC Commander Maj. Gen. David Mugisha said the “structured retirement marked an important step in the evolution” of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) into a “more professional and institutionalized force.”

He noted that the current system “ensures officers exit with formal recognition, retirement packages, and opportunities” to reintegrate into civilian life.

“Our comrades retire with their heads high, proud of their service and confident in their future,” said Maj. Gen. Mugisha, who encouraged the retirees to make sustainable investments, particularly in agriculture and small businesses, to maintain steady incomes post-service.

Furthermore, Col. John Mango Baraza, Director of Human Resource Management at SFC, described retirement as a “key function in professional personnel management” that allows for career progression, continuity, and integration with civilian communities.

Lt. Col. Fred Mwesigwa, speaking on behalf of senior retiring officers, said their years of service involved “adapting to new technologies and operational strategies.”

He urged fellow retirees to “stay engaged in community development” and use their experience to contribute to national progress.

In conclusion, the group included eight senior officers and 44 other ranks, many of whom had served between 16 and 36 years.
