President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has officially endorsed Speaker Anita Among and her deputy Thomas Tayebwa for another term at the helm of Uganda’s Parliament ahead of the 12th Parliament.
The endorsement, which is set to be tabled before the ruling party’s parliamentary caucus for formal adoption, comes ahead of the upcoming speakership race in the next Parliament.
According to resolutions passed by the Central Executive Committee (CEC) on January 27 and February 20, 2026, the ruling party resolved to maintain continuity in parliamentary leadership by supporting the incumbent Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
Speaking to Uncovered Ug, Richard Todwong, the Secretary General of the National Resistance Movement, said the party opted to uphold precedent by allowing both leaders to complete two full terms.
“The party agreed that maintaining continuity and stability in parliamentary leadership is critical. Any other party members who had shown interest in the positions were asked to step down in the interest of unity,” Todwong said.
With the endorsement from the party leadership, Among and Tayebwa are now widely expected to retain their positions, positioning the ruling party to enter the 12th Parliament with experienced leadership in the August House.
