Rashid Wafula, aged 74 years, from Agururu B2 in Tororo Municipality’s Western Division, has been left homeless by his own family members after destroying his house, clothes, and crops.
The incident reportedly stemmed from accusations by Wafula’s wife, Mariam Nabakooba, and their children, Hibrahim Mukhana, 26, and Saadi Wananda, 24.
The incident left Wafula’s home in ruins. The house and crops were destroyed by his sons and wife; the house smashed, and essential documents were burnt into ashes.

News reaching our desk claims that Wafula had tipped off authorities about a smuggling operation, resulting in the seizure of Nabakooba’s rice shipment, valued at 7 million shillings, by revenue officials in Jinja.
“They allege that I alerted the revenue in Jinja to impound their rice worth 7 million. Yet they don’t have any proof,” Wafula added.
The family’s retaliation allegedly caused extensive damage. Wafula’s government documents related to the Parish Development Model, personal files, and National Resistance Movement (NRM) materials were all destroyed.
“They didn’t stop at that. They entered my bedroom and burnt all my clothes, including my national ID and land documents,” he said while crying.
Martin Opio, a concerned community member, reached out to us on a phone call and said, “This is attempted murder. A wife and children cannot treat the head of their family like this. They need to repent, or they will face severe consequences.”
In conclusion, Now Mr Rashid Wafula is left with only the clothes on his back, Wafula has sought refuge with neighbors.
