Mak University Student Arrested Over Veterinary College Break-In

KAMPALA, Uganda — April 14, 2026 — Police in Wandegeya have arrested a Makerere University student over an alleged break-in at the College of Veterinary Medicine’s Postmortem Department building.

The incident reportedly took place on the night of Monday, April 13, 2026, when unknown individuals allegedly broke into offices within the college premises and stole several valuable items. Police immediately launched investigations after the theft was discovered.

Following the investigation, the suspect was arrested on Tuesday in an operation involving police sniffer dogs.

“The canine, Boela, successfully picked up a scent from the scene and tracked it for approximately 900 meters to a nearby residential area,” police said.

The search led officers to a house believed to be occupied by two suspects identified as Ochieng David and Wandwali Colline.

A search of the premises reportedly led to the recovery of multiple suspected stolen items, including electrical cables, five central processing units (CPUs), a Dell desktop computer, office chairs, printers, six Dell projectors, a cupboard, a hard disk, gloves marked as property of Makerere University, a projector screen, and a laptop.

Police further revealed that Ochieng David is both a student at the College of Veterinary Medicine and a worker at the university farm.

Authorities said investigations are still ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the break-in and whether more suspects may be involved.

Police praised the canine unit for its swift response, noting that the recovery of stolen property marked a major breakthrough in the case. Security at university facilities is expected to be strengthened.
