Kenya’s President William Kipchirchir Samoei Arap Ruto has announced the names of new ministers, retained six of his 22 cabinet secretaries, and named five new nominees as he nominated the first batch of 11 ministers.
However, President Ruto yesterday evening announced 11 appointments to what he described as a broad-based unity government, promising additional nominations soon.
It should be remembered that President Ruto last week sacked the whole cabinet in a bid to form a new government aimed at addressing the grievances of young protesters.

Additionally, in the new Cabinet lineup, President Ruto re-appointed Kithure Kindiki as Interior Minister, Aden Duale as Minister for Defense, and Soipan Tuya as Minister for Environment, and also re-assigned the portfolios of two other ministers.
The Generation Z protests, which have resulted in over 50 deaths since mid-June, left President Ruto under pressure from the demonstrators to reduce high debts and a public struggling with high living costs.
The nominees for positions as Cabinet Secretaries include Prof. Kithure Kindiki for Interior and National Administration, Dr. Debra Mulonga Barasa for Health, and Ms.
Alice Wahome for Lands, Public Works, Housing, and Urban Development; Julius Migosi Ogamba for Education; Aden Barre Duale for Defense; Dr. Andrew Mwihia Karanja for Agriculture and Livestock Development; Ms. Roselinda Soipan Tuiya for Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry; and Eric Muriithi Muuga for Water Sanitation and Irrigation.
In conclusion, others include Davis Chirchir for roads and transport, Ms. Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u for information communication and the digital economy, and Ms. Rebecca Miano as Attorney-General.
