In a tragic incident, at least 19 people have died and 13 others were injured in a devastating road accident involving a Fuso Fighter truck along the Hoima-Bulisa Road on Tuesday night.
Traffic Police spokesperson Michael Kananura told Uncovered Ug news reporters that “the injured victims have been taken to various health facilities for urgent medical attention.”
According to preliminary investigations by police in the Albertine Region, the truck failed to ascend a hill at Kigorobya, rolled backward, and overturned, killing 19 people on the spot.

Furthermore, the accident occurred at around 11pm in Kigorobya Sub-county, Hoima District, when the truck of registration number UBB 639W overturned while transporting market vendors from Wanseko-Buliisa Market.
“The bodies of the deceased have been transported to Hoima City Mortuary for postmortem examinations.”
Furthermore, Kananura expressed condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured a quick recovery. He reiterated the dangers of transporting people in cargo trucks and urged truck owners and drivers to prioritize safety.
“We strongly urge all truck drivers and transporters to refrain from carrying passengers in cargo sections or on top of trucks. These vehicles are not designed for human transport,” he said.
Kananura also emphasized the importance of regular vehicle maintenance, particularly for trucks operating on challenging terrain.
“Drivers must exercise extreme caution when navigating hilly or hazardous road sections to avoid such tragedies,” he added.
In conclusion, police have started a full investigation into the circumstances that led to the accident in the area.
