Scores of passengers sustained injuries when a Goglon bus overturned early Monday morning on the Katosi-Nyenga road in Buikwe District.
The accident occurred at the Buwooya roundabout as the bus, en route from Kampala to Soroti, failed to navigate a sharp corner. The vehicle, registration number UAS 822H, struck the pavement, veered off the road, and overturned.
Police reports confirm that ten passengers were injured, with several in critical condition. Among those affected are Kenneth Okia (32, Bukedea), Mary Alaso (23, Amuria), and John Omagye (26, Amuria), along with Bernard Ochom, Julius Eminu, and Christine Akurut. The bus has since been towed to Ngogwe Police Station for inspection, while the driver, who fled the scene, remains at large. Authorities are actively pursuing him as investigations into the crash continue.
Hellen Butoto, the Ssezibwa Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident and urged drivers to exercise caution, particularly during the busy festive season. She highlighted that ongoing heavy rains have made roads slippery, increasing the likelihood of accidents.
In conclusion, Police have called on all road users to prioritise safety, adhere to speed limits, and remain vigilant to avoid further tragedies during this time of heightened travel.
